UNITY CUP TO EVALUATE SQUAD

Ghana’s national team, the Black Stars, is using the 2025 Unity Cup in London as a strategic opportunity to assess both new and existing players ahead of future competitive matches. Head coach Otto Addo has assembled a 23-man squad for the tournament, blending experienced players with promising newcomers.

Among the fresh faces in the squad is goalkeeper Joseph Anang, currently playing for St Patrick’s Athletic. Anang, who was previously capped by England at the U20 level, has shown strong interest in representing Ghana, his country of birth. His recent standout performances at the club level have earned him a first call-up to the national team.

Coach Addo views the Unity Cup, which features teams such as Nigeria, Jamaica, and Trinidad & Tobago, as an important platform to observe and evaluate player performance in a competitive environment. Although the tournament does not fall within FIFA's official international match window—meaning clubs are not obligated to release players—St Patrick’s Athletic has allowed Anang to participate in Ghana’s opening match before he returns to fulfill club duties.

This approach reflects the Black Stars’ broader strategy to build team cohesion and identify the best possible lineup ahead of major upcoming tournaments and qualifiers.
