TELECEL HEALTHFEST REVEALS UNDETECTED TYPHOID SURGE IN LAWRA
TELECEL HEALTHFEST REVEALS UNDETECTED TYPHOID
Telecel Ghana Foundation’s Healthfest initiative has brought to light a previously undetected surge in typhoid cases in Lawra, a rural community in Ghana. Although detailed statistics from Lawra remain limited, similar health outreach programs in other regions have revealed alarming trends in untreated diseases.
In places like Sefwi Bekwai, over 500 residents underwent free medical screenings for conditions including typhoid, malaria, hypertension, diabetes, and hepatitis B. These assessments not only provided urgent medical care but also exposed the high prevalence of these illnesses in underserved areas.
A similar event in Techiman screened 447 residents, uncovering widespread cases of high blood pressure and elevated blood sugar levels—further evidence of the silent health crises in rural Ghana.
Conducted in partnership with the Ghana Health Service and the Divine Mother & Child Foundation, Healthfest offers free consultations, lab tests, and NHIS registrations. The program aims to close the healthcare access gap for rural populations and provide early detection of common but often overlooked diseases.
While specific figures for Lawra are still emerging, the trends across various districts point to a national need for regular health screenings and public awareness campaigns. The Healthfest initiative is proving essential in unveiling and addressing these hidden health threats.
