PHARMACY COUNCIL PROMOTES TELEMEDICINE TO IMPROVE HEALTHCARE ACCESS NATIONWIDE

PHARMACY COUNCIL PROMOTES TELEMEDICINE

TELEMEDICINE

The Pharmacy Council of Ghana is advocating for the use of telemedicine as a strategic approach to improve healthcare accessibility, especially in remote and underserved communities. Central to this effort is the National Electronic Pharmacy Platform (NEPP), a digital solution that allows patients to access pharmaceutical services online.

Through NEPP, patients can connect with licensed pharmacies, upload prescriptions, and receive medications at their doorstep, minimizing the need for physical pharmacy visits. Dr. Daniel Amaning, the Council’s Registrar, stressed that the platform enhances not only access but also regulation, ensuring medications are dispensed safely and responsibly.

This initiative is being implemented in collaboration with several regulatory bodies, including the Food and Drugs Authority, the Pharmaceutical Society of Ghana, and other key health sector stakeholders. Together, they aim to ensure that only certified e-pharmacies operate, maintaining strict standards in pharmaceutical care.

By embracing digital tools like NEPP, the Pharmacy Council aims to close healthcare delivery gaps and ensure that Ghanaians everywhere can obtain essential medications conveniently and securely.
