KORLE-BU RENAL UNIT RESTARTS OUTPATIENT DIALYSIS SERVICES AFTER TEMPORARY HALT
KORLE-BU RENAL UNIT RESTART
The Renal Unit at Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital has resumed outpatient dialysis services after a one-week suspension caused by a shortage of essential medical supplies. Patients began receiving calls from the hospital on May 6, notifying them to return for treatment.
Kojo Baffour Ahenkora, president of the Renal Patients Association, confirmed the resumption but criticized the hospital for its poor communication. According to him, neither the suspension nor the restart was formally announced, leaving many patients confused and anxious.
During the closure, around 200 patients were forced to seek expensive alternatives at private health facilities. While emergency care remained available, the disruption caused serious challenges for regular patients.
The association has urged the hospital to ensure consistent communication and secure a steady supply of dialysis materials to avoid future service interruptions.
