GHANA'S NAOMI OYOE OHENE OTI WINS $250,000
Naomi Oyoe Ohene Oti, a distinguished oncology nurse specialist from Ghana, has won the prestigious 2025 Aster Guardians Global Nursing Award, accompanied by a cash prize of $250,000. The award ceremony was held on May 26, 2025, in Dubai.
Oti, who is the Head of Nursing at the National Radiotherapy, Oncology and Nuclear Medicine Centre at Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, emerged as the top winner from among more than 100,000 nominations representing 199 countries. Her groundbreaking work in cancer care and nursing education has earned her international recognition.
One of her most notable achievements is the development of Ghana’s first formal oncology nurse training program. This initiative has led to the certification of over 70 oncology and breast care nurses, significantly enhancing cancer care delivery in the country.
Oti’s impact extends beyond Ghana, as she has mentored nearly 50 nurses across the African continent. She also played a crucial role in shaping Ghana’s postgraduate curriculum for oncology nursing, thereby influencing the future of cancer care in the region.
Her collaborative efforts with global institutions, such as the Cross Cancer Institute in Canada, and her active participation in international organizations including the African Organisation for Research and Training in Cancer (AORTIC) and the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), highlight her dedication to elevating nursing standards and improving patient care.
The Aster Guardians Global Nursing Award was established by Aster DM Healthcare in 2021 to recognize and celebrate nurses who demonstrate exceptional leadership, innovation, and commitment to healthcare. Oti’s award is a significant acknowledgment of the critical role African nurses play in the global healthcare landscape.
