HIGH PRAISE FROM OTTO ADDO

Black Stars head coach Otto Addo has expressed strong admiration for the current state of the Ghana Premier League (GPL), describing it as significantly improved and more engaging than in previous years. His comments came after attending the match between Legon Cities and Medeama SC, which ended with a narrow 1-0 win for Medeama.

Addo noted that the domestic league is becoming more competitive and entertaining, stating, “The Ghana Premier League is picking up and getting more interesting.” He emphasized that, even though it's still early in the season, the quality of play and overall standards have visibly risen compared to two years ago.

As part of his renewed commitment to developing local talent, Addo revealed plans to monitor the GPL closely by attending more games in person. “I will watch the Ghana Premier League closely and attend matches in person across different stadiums,” he stated. This hands-on approach is aimed at identifying promising players who can be integrated into the national team.

His recent squad selection for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers includes three locally-based players: Emmanuel Antwi (Asante Kotoko), Razak Simpson (Nations FC), and Isaac Afful (Samartex), signaling his intent to reward performance in the domestic league with international opportunities.

Addo’s recognition of the league’s improvement and his focus on homegrown players is being widely praised as a move that could elevate the profile of the GPL and motivate local clubs and players to aim higher.
