YOUTH FLEE WASAI

WASAI

The youth population in Wasai, a rural community in Ghana, is steadily abandoning the area due to persistent socio-economic challenges. Key among their concerns are the lack of employment opportunities, inadequate infrastructure, and limited access to digital tools and internet connectivity.

According to local residents and community leaders, the absence of basic amenities and the government's neglect have left young people feeling hopeless about their future in the area. Many have migrated to urban centers in search of better livelihoods, leaving behind an aging population and deepening the community’s developmental struggles.

Several young people expressed frustration over being unable to engage in productive economic activities or access online educational and business opportunities. They noted that the lack of roads, stable electricity, and internet service makes it nearly impossible to build a future in Wasai.

Community elders have raised alarm over the trend, warning that without immediate intervention from authorities, Wasai risks becoming completely depopulated. They are appealing to the government and relevant stakeholders to invest in job creation, upgrade infrastructure, and provide digital connectivity to revitalize the area and give the youth a reason to stay.

This situation reflects a broader issue across many rural communities in Ghana, where underdevelopment continues to drive young people away in search of better prospects elsewhere.
