WONTUMI SUMMONED BY CID TODAY

WONTUMII

The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi-Boasiako—widely known as Chairman Wontumi—is expected to report once more to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service today, Tuesday, May 27, 2025, at 3:00 p.m.

This development follows his recent release on bail, granted with two sureties, in connection with allegations of engaging in illegal small-scale mining activities, commonly referred to as “galamsey.” The police are continuing their investigations into his alleged involvement.

Chairman Wontumi has strongly denied the accusations, asserting that he is committed to responsible mining practices. He maintains that his operations comply with Ghana's mining regulations and are not part of the illegal mining sector.

In addition, Wontumi has also dismissed claims that his company, Hallmark Engineering, received a GH₵50 million payment from the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD). According to him, these allegations are unfounded and politically motivated.

The CID’s renewed invitation is part of an ongoing investigation to determine the veracity of the claims leveled against him. The police have assured the public that the inquiry will be thorough, impartial, and in line with the law.
