MAHAMA WARNS MMDCEs: USE DACF RESPONSIBLY OR FACE DISMISSAL
MAHAMA WARNS MMDCEs

President John Dramani Mahama has issued a stern warning to Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs), urging them to ensure the efficient and transparent use of the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF). He emphasized that failure to do so could lead to their immediate dismissal.
This directive underscores the President’s renewed focus on accountability and responsible governance at the local level as part of his broader strategy to reform and strengthen decentralization efforts in the country. According to Mahama, the DACF is a critical financial resource meant to drive grassroots development, and any misuse or mismanagement of these funds will not be tolerated.
The warning comes amid broader administrative changes within the local governance structure. On January 8, 2025—just a day after his swearing-in—President Mahama revoked the appointments of all MMDCEs and directed the Coordinating Directors of the respective Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies to serve as acting Chief Executives until new appointments are made. This action, communicated through a letter signed by Dr. Callistus Mahama, Executive Secretary to the President, was taken in accordance with the Local Governance Act, 2016 (Act 936), as amended by the Local Governance (Amendment) Act, 2017 (Act 940).
The decision reflects Mahama’s commitment to resetting the tone for governance at the district level and ensuring that public funds are used effectively to meet the development needs of local communities.
