WESTERN REGIOANL MINISTER ENGAGES ORESTES MINE MANAGERS IN BOGOSO
WESTERN REGIONAL MINISTER ENGAGES MINE MANAGERS
The Western Regional Minister, Joseph Nelson, has summoned the new management team of the Bogoso Prestea Mine—now operated by Heat GoldFields—over mounting concerns about deteriorating conditions and operational inefficiencies since the company assumed control.
This action follows the Minister’s recent inspection visit to the mine, during which he encountered a litany of grievances from the workforce. Key issues raised include the alleged tampering with vital mining machinery, non-fulfillment of contractual obligations, and significant delays in the payment of workers' salaries.
Addressing the media after his visit, Minister Nelson expressed deep concern about the current state of the mine. “You heard the lamentations of the workers—they haven’t received their salaries for several months,” he stated. “The critical issue here is the rapid decline in the mine’s condition. From what I saw, essential equipment is rusting and deteriorating. This level of neglect is unacceptable. It’s clear to me that this new management is underperforming.”
The Minister’s directive to summon the company’s leadership suggests that regulatory or administrative measures could be imposed if immediate corrective actions are not taken to restore proper operational standards and ensure worker welfare.
