REJECTIONS OF MMDCE NOMINEES POSE THREAT TO LOCALL DEVELOPMENT

REJECTION OF MMDCE NOMINEES

Greater-Accra-Minister

The repeated disapproval of Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executive (MMDCE) nominees across Ghana is raising alarm over its impact on grassroots governance and development. Greater Accra Regional Minister Linda Ocloo has expressed concern that these rejections are stalling critical projects and undermining local progress, as districts remain without confirmed leadership.

In a recent case, Kenneth Kabu Kanor, the President’s nominee for the Ada East District, was rejected by the assembly despite receiving 63.2% of the vote—falling short of the required two-thirds majority. Similarly, in Ayawaso West, assembly members rejected the President's nominee amidst heightened political tension.

These setbacks disrupt decision-making and delay development initiatives, as interim officials often lack the authority to act decisively. The situation highlights the need for greater consensus and a less politicized approach to local government appointments, to ensure smooth administration and consistent development at the district level.
