REGSEC TO DEMOLISH ILLEGAL BUILDINGS

Linda

The Greater Accra Regional Security Council (REGSEC) has announced plans to carry out the demolition of unauthorized structures built along waterways within the Greater Accra Region. This effort targets areas including Tema and Klagon, where illegal buildings have been obstructing natural water flow. The operation is part of a broader initiative to reduce flooding risks during the upcoming rainy season by clearing waterways and restoring their natural channels.

This demolition drive follows similar exercises conducted earlier this year at critical sites such as the Weija and Dansoman Ramsar areas. These actions align with directives from President John Dramani Mahama, who has emphasized the need to curb illegal encroachments on protected lands and waterways to address the persistent flooding problems affecting the capital city.

Leading the demolition efforts is the Greater Accra Regional Minister, Linda Ocloo, supported by security forces to ensure the exercise proceeds smoothly. The government is firmly committed to enforcing environmental laws and protecting vulnerable flood-prone zones from further illegal developments.

Residents and property owners in the identified areas are urged to comply with the authorities to facilitate a successful operation and contribute to long-term flood management in the region.
