PURC ENGAGES GRIDCO,ECG AND NEDCO OVER ONGOING POWER CRISIS
PURC ENGAGES GRIDCO,ECG AND NEDCO
In response to the persistent electricity supply disruptions across Ghana, the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) convened an emergency meeting on May 23, 2025, with key players in the country’s power sector. The meeting brought together officials from the Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo), the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), and the Northern Electricity Distribution Company (NEDCo).
The primary objective of the meeting was to address the ongoing power supply issues that have impacted homes and businesses in recent weeks. During the discussions, PURC directed all three utilities to submit detailed technical reports explaining the root causes of the interruptions and outlining the specific measures they are undertaking to restore reliable power supply.
Furthermore, PURC emphasized the need for enhanced transparency and proactive communication. The Commission urged the utility companies to keep the public adequately informed about the situation, especially regarding any planned maintenance or load-shedding schedules that could affect consumers.
This move by PURC forms part of its regulatory mandate to ensure that utility providers are held accountable and that consumers' rights are protected during periods of service disruption.
The Commission reiterated its commitment to working closely with all relevant stakeholders to restore stability to Ghana’s power supply system as quickly as possible.
