NPP SUPPRTERS GATHER AT CHAIRMAN WONTUMI RESIDENCE

NPP SUPPORTERS

Supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) reportedly converged at the residence of Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, widely known as Chairman Wontumi, following the unexpected withdrawal of National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) officers from the premises.

Though official details remain limited, the gathering is believed to be a show of solidarity amid growing tensions between the NPP and the NIB. Recent incidents have fueled suspicions within the party over what some perceive as attempts to intimidate or target key party figures.

Earlier this year, NPP members in Akwatia successfully resisted efforts by NIB operatives to arrest their Member of Parliament, Ernest Kumi, with tensions escalating to the point where one officer allegedly brandished a firearm. Similarly, in Assin South, supporters and national executives gathered at the residence of MP John Ntim Fordjour, reportedly to prevent his arrest following his allegations about suspected drug trafficking via international flights.

These confrontations have intensified scrutiny of the NIB’s actions, prompting strong reactions from the NPP leadership, who view them as politically motivated.

The situation at Chairman Wontumi’s residence underscores the deepening friction between state security agencies and the ruling party’s grassroots supporters, raising broader concerns about security operations and political neutrality as the nation moves closer to election season.
