GHOSPA DEMANDS IMMEDIATE POSTING OF 599 PHARMACISTS

GHOSPA

The Government and Hospital Pharmacists Association (GHOSPA) is calling on the Ghanaian government to urgently approve the postings of 599 pharmacist house officers who have completed their academic training and are ready to begin their mandatory housemanship.

In a strongly worded appeal, GHOSPA warned that continued delays in posting these pharmacists could result in a major healthcare crisis. The association expressed deep concern over the impact the delay could have on the delivery of pharmaceutical services across public healthcare facilities in the country.

According to GHOSPA, these pharmacists are critical to ensuring the safe and effective use of medications, particularly in public hospitals where the demand for pharmaceutical care is consistently high. With many healthcare facilities already experiencing staff shortages, the absence of these 599 pharmacists threatens to overwhelm the current workforce and compromise the quality of care provided to patients.

GHOSPA emphasized that these professionals have met all the necessary requirements and are prepared to serve. However, bureaucratic bottlenecks are hindering their placement, creating frustration among the affected pharmacists and uncertainty in the healthcare system.

The association is therefore urging the Ministry of Health and other relevant authorities to take swift action to finalize the posting process. GHOSPA believes that immediate deployment of the pharmacists will help stabilize the system and prevent a disruption in pharmaceutical services that could negatively affect patient outcomes.

GHOSPA concluded its appeal by reiterating the essential role pharmacists play in healthcare delivery and cautioning that failure to act could undermine recent gains made in the country’s health sector.
