Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, has officially referred the list of Supreme Court nominees submitted by President John Dramani Mahama to Parliament’s Appointments Committee for vetting.
The President nominated seven Justices from the Court of Appeal to serve on the highest court of the land. These nominations, made in April 2025, are in accordance with Article 144(2) of the 1992 Constitution, which stipulates that appointments to the Supreme Court require consultation with the Judicial Council and the approval of Parliament.
The nominees are:
- Justice Sir Dennis Dominic Adjei
- Justice Gbiel Simon Suurbaareh
- Justice Senyo Dzamefe
- Justice Kweku Tawiah Ackaah-Boafo
- Justice Philip Bright Mensah
- Justice Janapare Bartels-Kodwo
- Justice Hafisata Amaleboba
In his communication to Parliament, President Mahama emphasized the importance of expediting the vetting process to ensure the prompt swearing-in of the new justices, enabling the judiciary to continue operating efficiently.
The Appointments Committee will now begin the vetting process and is expected to present its findings to the full House for consideration and final approval.
