"Salam Mustapha Backtracks on Political Allegations, Apologizes to UG's Prof. Gyampo"

National Youth Organizer Salam Mustapha has formally apologized and retracted his recent allegations against University of Ghana political science lecturer, Prof. Ransford Gyampo.

In an October 28, 2024, statement, Mustapha accused Prof. Gyampo of exploiting the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) strike to sway students politically in favor of the National Democratic Congress (NDC). He also suggested that Prof. Gyampo sought a political appointment from the NDC and claimed that the professor held a "reputation for misconduct involving students and altering grades."

Following discussions with Prof. Gyampo’s legal team, Mustapha recognized the damaging and unfounded nature of his statements. Expressing regret, he issued a retraction, saying, “Given that I have no evidence to back the allegations I made against Prof. Gyampo, I sincerely apologize and withdraw my statement.

In his statement, Mustapha also committed to ensuring that the retraction receives equal media coverage to minimize the impact of the original claims. “I am taking steps to publish this retraction widely, so it reaches every media outlet that carried my initial press release,” he emphasized, acknowledging the potential harm his remarks may have caused to Prof. Gyampo’s reputation.
