"Kofi Mills Slams Former Mills Aide Koku Anyidoho for Alleged NDC Disloyalty"
"Kofi Mills Slams Koku Anyidoho
Kofi Sam Atta Mills, son of the late President John Evans Atta Mills, has publicly criticized Koku Anyidoho, former Director of Communications at the Presidency under his father’s administration, for his outspoken criticism of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and its leadership. Once a loyal member and Deputy General Secretary of the NDC, Anyidoho has, in recent years, frequently voiced support for policies of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), the NDC’s primary political rival. This shift has prompted confusion and backlash within NDC ranks, and Kofi Sam Atta Mills’ recent comments on the matter reveal just how deep the frustration goes.
In an interview on Onua TV, Kofi Mills questioned the consistency and integrity of Anyidoho, accusing him of betraying the values he once defended and abandoning the legacy of former President Atta Mills. He expressed dismay at Anyidoho's apparent alignment with the NPP, particularly as this pivot comes after years of aggressive opposition against the ruling party while he was part of the NDC.
“The very same party that hurled insults at my father when he was seeking loans for the Atuabo Gas project,” Kofi Mills said, “is the one he now supports. Back then, as Communications Director, he was fighting tooth and nail to protect my father’s honor against these attacks. And now? He’s comfortably aligned himself with those who wore black and publicly disgraced him in parliament, waving red cards in opposition.”
Kofi Mills went on to note the emotional toll that the NDC's internal tensions are having on the party’s base, suggesting that the public displays of division weaken the NDC’s image and mission. He implied that Anyidoho’s current criticisms of NDC flag bearer John Dramani Mahama reflect personal grudges rather than ideological disagreements.
As a former close confidant of President Mills, Anyidoho played a crucial role in managing the administration’s communications strategy, often acting as a shield against opposition criticism. The former president, known for his gentle and unifying approach, was reportedly distressed by the accusations and treatment from the opposition, particularly regarding the Atuabo Gas project, a major initiative intended to bolster Ghana’s energy independence. For Kofi Mills, Anyidoho’s shift feels not only like a political betrayal but a personal one against his late father’s legacy.
Though Anyidoho has yet to respond to the recent accusations, this latest clash exposes deeper rifts within Ghana’s political landscape, where long-standing loyalties are frequently tested by changing allegiances. With election season approaching, both the NDC and NPP are expected to leverage these internal conflicts to influence public opinion.
