The Students Loan Trust Fund (SLTF), under a new government initiative, will begin reimbursing academic user fees paid by first-year students in public tertiary institutions starting June 2025. This move forms part of the broader “No-Fees-Stress” policy aimed at reducing the financial pressure on students and their families.

As part of this policy, the government has allocated GH¢499.8 million to cover the tuition costs of all first-year students in public universities and colleges. Students who have already paid these fees will not be left out—they will receive refunds through their respective institutions.

The implementation of this policy is set to take place from June 2025. Universities will coordinate with SLTF to ensure students who made early payments are duly reimbursed.

Additionally, the government has reaffirmed its commitment to education by also allocating GH¢3.5 billion to support Free Senior High School (SHS) education and GH¢564.6 million for the supply of free textbooks.

Students are advised to stay in contact with their schools or visit www.sltf.gov.gh for updates on how the reimbursement process will be handled.
