Manchester United stormed into the UEFA Europa League final with a commanding 7–1 aggregate victory over Athletic Bilbao in the semi-finals.

In the first leg held in Spain, United laid the groundwork for their progression with a dominant 3–0 win. Casemiro opened the scoring before Bruno Fernandes netted twice—once from open play and again from the penalty spot after Dani Vivian was sent off for a foul on Rasmus Højlund.

Athletic briefly sparked hope in the return leg at Old Trafford when Mikel Jauregizar put them ahead. However, United responded swiftly and ruthlessly. Mason Mount came off the bench to score twice, making him the first United substitute since David Beckham in 2003 to score a brace in a European knockout match. Casemiro and Højlund added further goals, sealing a 4–1 win on the night.

The game wasn’t without controversy, as United’s Victor Lindelöf escaped punishment for a harsh challenge on Benat Prados, which left the Bilbao player needing stitches. The incident drew criticism, especially since neither the referee nor VAR intervened.

Despite the heavy defeat, Bilbao fans were lauded for their unwavering support, singing throughout the match and earning respect from football fans across Europe.

United now face Tottenham Hotspur—who beat Bodo/Glimt 5–1 on aggregate—in an all-English final set for May 21 at San Mamés Stadium in Bilbao. With a Champions League spot and a £100 million prize at stake, the showdown promises to be intense. United boss Ruben Amorim has made his intentions clear: only victory will do for the Red Devils and their loyal supporters.
