Pope Leo XIV, formerly known as Robert Francis Prevost, will preside over his first Mass as the newly elected head of the Catholic Church today in the Sistine Chapel. This solemn celebration with the College of Cardinals officially marks the beginning of his papal ministry.

The Mass is set to begin at 11 a.m. Central European Summer Time (9 a.m. GMT) and symbolizes the unity of the Church as well as the start of a new chapter in its leadership.

Pope Leo XIV, a native of Chicago with extensive pastoral experience in Peru, has made history as the first American-born pontiff. His choice of the name “Leo” honors Pope Leo XIII, recognized for championing workers’ rights—hinting at a socially conscious papacy.

In his first public address from the balcony of St. Peter’s Basilica, the pope called for peace and unity, expressing his hope for a Church that "builds bridges" across communities and cultures.

The Mass will be broadcast live, allowing Catholics around the world to witness this significant moment in Church history.
