Ghana’s U-20 national football team is competing in the 2025 CAF U-20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), currently underway in Egypt, with a clear objective—to qualify for the 2025 FIFA U-20 World Cup. This continental tournament serves as the primary qualification route for African teams aiming for the global stage.

Head coach Desmond Ofei has named a strong 21-man squad, announced on April 30, 2025, blending promising local talent with Europe-based players. The squad includes key names such as Gidios Aseako (Dreams FC), Aziz Issah (FC Barcelona B), and Aaron Essel (North Texas SC).

Ghana has been drawn into Group C alongside Senegal, DR Congo, and the Central African Republic. To secure World Cup qualification, the Black Satellites must finish among the tournament’s top four teams—typically the group winners and the best-performing runner-up.

The stakes are high, especially after the senior national team missed out on qualification for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations for the first time since 2004. A strong showing by the U-20s could help restore national pride and signal a promising future for Ghanaian football.
