Former President John Dramani Mahama has assured that Ghana will successfully complete its current $3 billion programme with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) within the agreed timeframe, ruling out any extension.

The IMF programme, initiated in May 2023, has undergone several reviews, with the Fund describing Ghana’s performance as “generally satisfactory.” Key milestones, including progress in debt restructuring and successful negotiations with both Eurobond holders and official creditors, have kept the country on track.

While Mahama has indicated his intention to renegotiate certain elements of the agreement—particularly to ease tax burdens and reform the energy sector—he remains firmly committed to fulfilling the terms of the programme as scheduled.

This balanced approach reflects his broader goal of steering Ghana toward fiscal stability and long-term economic growth, while adapting aspects of the deal to better reflect the country's current economic needs.
