Ghana and Algeria have signed a visa waiver agreement aimed at strengthening diplomatic and strategic ties between the two nations. The agreement allows citizens of both countries to travel without needing a visa, promoting easier movement and stronger people-to-people connections.
The deal was signed during an official visit to Algiers by Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa. During the visit, both countries reaffirmed their commitment to deepening cooperation across various sectors.
Key areas of collaboration include:
Education: Algeria has pledged to increase scholarship opportunities for Ghanaian students, focusing on fields like artificial intelligence, robotics, and engineering.
Transport: Discussions are underway to launch direct flights between Accra and Algiers to improve connectivity and enhance trade and tourism.
Energy: Both countries plan to partner in the oil and gas sector, sharing resources and expertise to mutual benefit.
Security: The two nations agreed to collaborate on security matters, including intelligence sharing and regional stability initiatives.
Economy: Ghana and Algeria will revive their Joint Economic Cooperation programme to boost trade and investment.
The move marks a renewed effort to reinforce the longstanding relationship between the two countries, rooted in a shared history of post-independence solidarity and cooperation.
