Ghana has successfully reduced malaria-related deaths by over 97% between 2014 and 2024. This achievement was celebrated during the 2025 World Malaria Day event, where Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, represented by Ghana Health Service Director-General Professor Samuel Kaba Akoriyea, acknowledged the country's progress and ongoing efforts to eliminate malaria.

Some key accomplishments include:

• A 97% decrease in malaria deaths.
• A 3% reduction in malaria- related outpatient cases.
• A 17% drop in hospital admissions due to malaria.

As part of the National Malaria Elimination Strategic Plan(2023-2028), Ghana aims to cut malaria mortality by an additional 51% and reduce the malaria case fatality rate among children under five by 36% in 2024, using 2025 as a reference year.

To achieve these goals, the country has implemented several strategic measures:

• Indoor  residual spraying.
• Distribution of insecticide -treated nets.
• Seasonal malaria chemoprevention.
• intermittent preventive treatment for pregnant women.
• Enhanced case management.
• A malaria vaccination Campaign,targeting over 70% coverage for the first dose.

These efforts demonstrate Ghana's commitment to eradicating malaria and improving the nation's health.
