DEGLORY GH MEDIA

Former NDC presidential candidate and Formal head of state John Dramani Mahama,, had the opportunity to cross the Afram River to visit the two Kwahu Afram Plains constituencies, regions often referred to as the food basket of our country. These areas, rich in agricultural potential, hold the promise of bolstering our nation’s food security and driving economic growth.

During my visit, I engaged with the teeming number of enthusiastic youth, the traditional leaders, and the residents of the area. Their expectations for enhanced infrastructure and socio-economic development were palpable. In response, I assured them that my administration is committed to not only addressing their sudden difficulties while simultaneously establishing the groundwork for future advancements.

Road and Bridge Infrastructure

Central to our development agenda is the construction of all-weather roads to provide seamless access to the Afram Plains. These roads are crucial for connecting farmers to markets, facilitating the transportation of goods, and integrating these communities into the national economy.

Furthermore, I reaffirmed our resolve to reactivate and fast-track plans to build a bridge over the Afram River. This bridge will not only be a symbol of progress but also a practical solution to the region’s transportation bottlenecks. The replacement of the broken-down pontoon—originally commissioned under the NDC administration of President J.E.A. Mills—will also be prioritized to ensure continuous connectivity between Afram Plains North and Kpando in the Volta Region.

Agricultural Development

Recognizing the Afram Plains as a pivotal agricultural hub, our government will establish Farmer Services Centres across the region. These centres will serve as one-stop hubs where farmers can access modern farming equipment, quality seeds, fertilizers, and expert guidance. In addition, we will promote agro-processing by setting up factories that add value to raw agricultural produce, creating jobs and reducing post-harvest losses.

By focusing on agriculture, we aim to empower farmers, enhance productivity, and solidify the Afram Plains’ reputation as a critical contributor to our nation’s food supply.

Social Infrastructure: Health and Education

Beyond agriculture, our commitment extends to improving the overall quality of life for the people of the Afram Plains. We will invest in critical socio-economic infrastructure, starting with healthcare facilities that cater to the unique needs of these communities. From well-equipped hospitals to clinics in remote areas, our goal is to ensure that no resident is denied access to quality medical care.

In education, we will prioritize building new schools, upgrading existing ones, and providing essential teaching and learning materials. A well-educated populace is the cornerstone of sustainable development, and we are dedicated to nurturing the potential of the youth in these constituencies.

A Vision for Inclusive Growth

Our approach to the Afram Plains’ development is holistic and inclusive. We envision a future where no region is left behind, where the potentials of all communities are fully realized, and where every citizen enjoys the benefits of national progress.

As I stood on the banks of the Afram River today, I was reminded of the fortitude and perseverance of the locals who reside here. Their optimism and faith in our shared future inspire us to work harder and deliver on our promises. Together, we will transform the Afram Plains into a beacon of progress and prosperity for generations to come.
