Speaker of Parliament Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, alongside distinguished officials and invited guests, inaugurated the new Parliament Supplementary Office Building Complex on Tuesday in Accra. The ceremony, marking a significant moment in Ghana's ongoing efforts to modernize parliamentary facilities, took place at Parliament House, where the five-Storey complex stands as a symbol of progress and commitment to efficient parliamentary administration.

Located strategically behind the iconic Job 600 Annex Building Block, the modern structure will host the Parliamentary Training Institute, as well as essential offices for key departments and specialists. The building also accommodates commercial facilities, including banks and convenience shops, creating a convenient ecosystem for parliamentary staff, members, and visitors.

The construction project, which commenced in June 2021, was designed and overseen by Messrs. ADK Consortium, with Messrs. China State Hualong Construction Limited as the main contractor. The building, which boasts cutting-edge architectural design and functionality, was completed on schedule, reflecting meticulous planning and the collective efforts of all stakeholders involved.

The event brought together notable figures, including former Speaker Aaron Mike Oquaye and Presiding over the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and a member of the Parliamentary Service Board is Johnson Asiedu Nketia. Reverend Aku Ofori Boateng, Director of Programmes of the Anglican Diocese of Accra, dedicated the building, offering prayers and blessings for its future purpose.
Speaker Bagbin thanked his predecessors, including Professor Aaron Mike Oquaye and Mr. Edward Doe Adjaho, for their foundational work in advancing Ghana’s parliamentary infrastructure. The development of a robust and adaptable parliamentary institution is an ongoing effort, and this project is a major step in that direction, according to Bagbin. He emphasized the importance of enhanced infrastructure in achieving the Parliamentary Service’s vision for a modernized administration.

Over the past three and a half years, the Parliamentary Service Board has pursued comprehensive reforms to enhance parliamentary support, approving a new organizational structure and recruiting skilled professionals to key roles. These measures aim to streamline parliamentary operations and introduce a balanced skill set into the workforce. Expanding infrastructure, such as this new complex, plays a critical role in achieving these objectives, Speaker Bagbin noted.

The complex's flexible workspaces and cutting-edge technology were highlighted by Bagbin, who looked back on the long-term vision. He reaffirmed the Parliamentary Service Board's dedication to creating an environment that is on par with global standards, promoting both efficiency and convenience
. We are committed to constructing a Parliament that is able to efficiently meet the demands of both the present and the generations to come, he continued.
The Speaker also acknowledged the project consultant, Messrs. ADK Consortium, and the contractor, Messrs. China State Hualong Construction Limited, for their dedication to completing the project on time. He extended particular thanks to Parliament’s Development Services Sub-Division, including Works, Facilities, and Estate, for their hands-on commitment.

The Clerk to Parliament, Mr. Cyril K.O. Nsiah, expressed gratitude to Speaker Bagbin and the Parliamentary Service Board, commending their dedication to Parliament’s structural development as a cornerstone of institutional progress.

In closing, Speaker Bagbin called upon all stakeholders to embrace a proactive maintenance culture for the building. We should take great pleasure in this facility and treat it as our own. This edifice, I believe, will remain a testament to our commitment for generations to come,” he concluded.
