Asante Kotoko withdraw from Capital City Africa Cup in Washington due to visa issues

Asante Kotoko have announced withdrawal from the upcoming Capital City Africa Cup, which was scheduled to take place in Washington, D.C. on October 12, 2024.
The club cited visa complications as the main reason behind their decision, stating that their players and technical team were unable to secure the necessary travel documents in time.
In an official statement, the club expressed disappointment over the outcome: "Despite ongoing discussions with the event organisers and the expectation that the visa challenges faced by our contingent would be resolved by Thursday evening, 10th October 2024, the necessary visas for our full squad and technical team have unfortunately not been secured in time. Given these hurdles, the club has determined that we are unable to proceed with participation in this year’s game."
Kotoko had been working diligently with all parties involved to find a solution. The club noted that while they maintained their professionalism throughout the process, circumstances beyond their control ultimately led to their decision to withdraw.
The statement further explained that this choice reflects the club's commitment to "operating under conditions that uphold our standards and values.”
The club also made it clear that they are disassociating themselves from the event, adding, "We wish to make it clear that the brand Asante Kotoko SC is not associated with the game or any activities related to the Capital City Africa Cup."
While Kotoko fans may feel disappointed by the news, the club remains focused on its domestic priorities. The first group of seven players and technical staff currently in the United States is set to return to Ghana on October 13. Following their return, Kotoko plans to redirect their efforts toward their promising start in the Ghana Premier League.
"We are grateful to our fans for their understanding and continued support during this period," the club concluded.
Kotoko are first in the league after five games, making an unbeaten start.
