If the National Democratic Congress (NDC) wins this year's December 7 election, they would establish a value-for-money office as part of a comprehensive anti-corruption apparatus for national governance.

John Dramani Mahama, the flag bearer of the NDC, has announced that one of their main policies is to establish an autonomous value-for-money office to carefully examine all government procurements that exceed the $5 million barrier or as advised by Parliament.

The ex-president, who made the commitment during a press conference in Accra last Sunday evening, also guaranteed that he would uphold the Office of the Special Prosecutor and enhance other established anti-corruption institutions to empower them in combating corruption holistically.

Together with his current running mate, Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, Mr. Mahama arrived at the event hall surrounded by prominent members of the party, including Prof. Joshua Alabi, who is leading the flag bearer campaign; Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, the party's general secretary; Dr. Ekwow Spio Garbrah, a former minister of education; Dr. Peter Boamah Otokunor, a former deputy general secretary; Sam George, a member of parliament (MP) for Ningo-Prampram, and Governs Kwame Agbodzah, an MP for Adaklu, among others.

During the three-hour session, the ex-President presented the party's comprehensive strategy for many sectors, focusing on job creation, economic stabilization, and the eradication of corruption as key subjects.

The ex-President delivered an introductory speech for 30 minutes, followed by a lengthy period of answering questions from the media for over two hours. He addressed inquiries regarding enhancing the Free Senior High School policy, establishing a conducive atmosphere for young employment, scrutinizing the funding of the National Cathedral project, and stabilizing the economy through prudent fiscal measures, among other topics.

Mr. Mahama based his campaign for another four-year term on his experience, visionary leadership for economic recovery, dedication to job creation, advocacy for social justice and equality, and his devotion to national unity.

Mr. Mahama stated that the utilization of public funds will consistently adhere to national regulations, be open and accountable, supported by current assessments of value-for-money, and exclusively serve the interests of residents.

"To eradicate corruption, it is imperative to enhance accountability in government procurement procedures." The NDC flag bearer stated that accountability empowers the people.

He alleged that the current New Patriotic Party (NPP) government has been overseeing blatant corruption and other types of mismanagement. "Following nearly eight years of governance by the Akufo-Addo and Bawumia administration, our nation has experienced a significant decline in economic conditions." The current economic turmoil encapsulates the judgment of this NPP government.

"For the majority of citizens, the journey over the period has been a distressing experience of economic and social deprivation. There have been extremely high levels of poverty, unemployment, deterioration in livelihoods, and social inequality. These issues have revealed the questionable tactic of concealing incompetence behind slogans."

"Former President Mahama stated that the reckless and hurried experimentation with the lives of citizens was supported by naive enthusiasm, arrogance, and self-centeredness, without any doubt."

According to Mr. Mahama, the party's 24-hour economic policy aims to fundamentally transform the local economic system by promoting home production of various items across diverse sectors.

The implementation of a 24-hour economy provides a reliable means to substitute imported goods with domestically produced ones, so establishing a strong foundation for a thriving Ghanaian industry. "In numerous cases, the reason for importing goods is not their superiority over domestic products, but rather the absence of local production or inadequate production here in Ghana," stated the former President.

The stimulus package aimed at incentivizing corporations to engage in the 24-hour economy will undoubtedly persuade businesses to commence the production of import alternatives. Are you aware of the reason? "Former President Mahama stated that the market for such products already exists."

The flag bearer of the NDC expressed the need to transition the economy from its current "destructive tide" to a trajectory of growth and prosperity, while ensuring fair and equal opportunities for everyone.

"Although the challenges we face today may appear overwhelming, I encourage you to envision a future Ghana that is revitalized. This is the Ghana that we all desire, where your abilities and diligent efforts dictate your achievements," Mr. Mahama remarked, specifically addressing the younger generation.
