In a public lecture at the Great Hall of the KNUST today, Speaker Alban Bagbin began the 30th anniversary celebrations in the Ashanti area, which began yesterday with a call on the Asantehene Otumfuor Osei Tutu II.
In the presence of his spouse, the Second Deputy Speaker, regional MPs, the Clerk to Parliament, two Deputy Clerks, and members of the Parliamentary Service, the Speaker conveyed his appreciation to Otumfuor for his wise counsel throughout the years. He also promised, similar to the Asantehene, that he would work hard to maintain openness and accountability to the people and Ghanaians in general as he leads the 8th Parliament to a successful conclusion.
In a speech, the Asantehene warned politicians against corrupting themselves by making money off of the election process. In order to keep the peace among the ruling and the governed, he emphasized that members of parliament should keep in regular contact with their people.
