Olympic sprinter Thompson-Herah of Jamaica

Olympic sprinter Thompson-Herah of Jamaica will not be competing in Paris.

The 100-meter and 200-meter Olympic champion Elaine Thompson-Herah will not be competing in the Paris Games because to an Achilles issue.
After suffering the injury at the 9th of June New York City Grand Prix, the 31-year-old Jamaican—a five-time Olympic gold medallist—had to be helped off the course.

After opting not to compete in the Jamaica 200m trials, sprinter Thompson-Herah aimed to defend her 100m gold. She is one of only two sprinters, alongside compatriot Usain Bolt, to have won multiple Olympic titles in both the 100m and 200m.

An injury she described as a "small tear on my Achilles tendon" rendered her ineligible to participate in a third Olympics.

After suffering the injury at the 9th of June New York City Grand Prix, the 31-year-old Jamaican—a five-time Olympic gold medallist—had to be helped off the course.

On Instagram, Thompson-Herah expressed her willingness to start anew, keep working, make a full recovery, and resume her track career, despite the long road ahead.

"I am hurt and devastated to be missing the Olympics this year but at the end of the day it’s sports and my health comes first."

The women's 100-meter race has been won four times by Jamaicans in the Olympics.

In 2016, Thompson-Herah won the 100-meter and 200-meter races in Rio. Five years later, in Tokyo, she defended her championships.
