MOBILE MONEY ACTIVITY IN GHANA REACHES GHC365BN
Ghana’s mobile money sector recorded a significant milestone in April 2025, with total transactions reaching GHC 365 billion. This figure, released by the Bank of Ghana, represents a 3.8% increase compared to GHC 351.7 billion recorded in March 2025, making April the highest month so far this year in terms of transaction value.
In addition to the rise in transaction value, the volume of transactions also increased, climbing from 764 million in March to 778 million in April. The consistent growth highlights the expanding role of mobile money in Ghana’s financial ecosystem, with more individuals and businesses relying on digital platforms for everyday payments.
Industry analysts attribute this upward trend to several factors, including the growing availability of smartphones, the expansion of mobile money agent networks across the country, and user-friendly service offerings that simplify digital financial transactions.
Another key development boosting mobile money usage is the recent removal of the Electronic Transfer Levy (E-Levy), which previously taxed mobile money transactions. Its elimination in April 2025 is expected to further encourage the use of digital payment channels by reducing the cost burden on users.
Experts predict continued momentum in the mobile money space as digital adoption deepens and policy reforms support financial inclusion in the country.
