GHANA'S NON-TRADITIONAL EXPORTS SET TO REACH $10 BILLION ANNUALLY BY 2030
GHANA'S NON-TRADITIONAL EXPORTS DOING WELL
Ghana's non-traditional exports (NTEs) are on track to reach $10 billion annually by 2030. In 2023, the country recorded $3.944 billion in NTEs, a significant rise from $3.531 billion in 2022, marking an 11.75% growth. This growth is attributed to structural improvements and the successful implementation of the National Export Development Strategy (NEDS).
The semi-processed manufacturing sector was the primary contributor, accounting for $3.35 billion or 85.25% of total NTE earnings. Key products driving this growth included iron and steel, cocoa paste, cashew nuts, and shea oil.
Looking ahead, Ghana aims to reach $25.3 billion in NTEs by 2029, with a diversified export strategy targeting 17 priority sectors, such as cocoa, cashew, horticultural products, fish, textiles, and aluminum. This ambitious goal will require further investment in value addition, infrastructure, and capacity building. The African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) is seen as a crucial opportunity to expand Ghanaian product markets.
