2024 General Elections: On Thursday, the NPP National Council will convene to discuss Bawumia's potential running partner.

In order to decide on the candidate's running mate, the New Patriotic Party's (NPP) National Council will convene on Thursday, July 4.

A meeting of the National Executive Committee (NEC) will take place first on Thursday, followed by a meeting of the National Council (NC).

The focus, according to Graphic Online's understanding, will be on the flag bearer's running companion.

The party's presidential candidate (flag bearer) is required by Article 12 (b) of the NPP constitution to choose their running partner (vice presidential candidate), who must be a recognized and active member of the party for a minimum of five (5) years. The nomination process must involve the National Council.

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the NPP's flag bearer, has begun consulting with party members and other interested parties over his nomination.

Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, a lawmaker from Kumasi's Manhyia South constituency, was his pick, and word got out last week that he met with President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to tell him so.

With formal notification to the NPP national officers on Monday, July 1, Dr. Bawumia nominated Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh (NAPO) to be his running partner.

The NPP's Asylum Down headquarters hosted Monday's gathering.
Dr. Bawumia has also met with members of the Parliamentary Majority Caucus.

But the nomination is still pending approval by the NPP's highest governing body, the National Council.
